Explications pour cette œuvre :
Fred Grant (1943) knows the boundless sandhills, the endless skies and extensive forests of Spinifex Country. He's walked the rich cultural fabric that embraces his land wherever he looks and he has intimate knowledge of the life sustaining water sources that are its foundation of survival in an arid environment.
Fred paints with the passive authority of someone that knows they belong to the intimacy of a landscape with a powerful religion at its heart. In this composition, Fred depicts the significant site of Ukatatjara, a site that holds the sensitive Tjitji Nyatatjiri Tjukurpa, a creation story that deals with the injustice of a young boy at the hands of a man. The boy is subsequently taken as a special boy on Mens Business and after becoming initiated he is killed by the original man who had wronged him.
