.... Ngupulya Pumani (1948) fait partie des anciens Anangu qui s’engagent à favoriser le droit traditionnel et la préservation de sa culture dans sa communauté Aborigène.
Ngupulya est née à Mimili. Sa mère, Kunmanara (Milatjari) Pumani était la gardienne du pays autour d’Antara, à l’ouest de Mimili. Son père, Sam Pumani était issu de Watarru dans le APY land. Les grands-parents de Ngupulya étaient pour leur part du côté de Milatjari : King Everard (Nyapi) et de Mantjangka Everard.
Ngupulya est l’aînée de cinq enfants. Elle a trois frères - Ken, Luey et Apada - ainsi qu’une soeur, Betty Kuntiwa Pumani (également peintre célèbre), qui vivent toutes à Mimili. Ngupulya a quatre filles et un fils - Janita, Sandra, Uni, Josina et Bradley (déc.). Ngupulya est mariée à Shannon Kantji et ont quatre petits-enfants et deux arrière-petits-enfants.
En 2017 elle a été retenue pour le prestigieux Wynne Prize, à la Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney, NSW. Artiste célèbre de Mimili Maku, ses œuvres figurent au sein des collections publiques de l’Art Gallery of South Australia, de la National Gallery of Victoria, de la Art Gallery of New South Wales, et de plusieurs collections privées en Europe et en Australie. ..
Ngupulya Pumani is a senior Anangu woman who is committed to fostering traditional law and culture in her community. Ngupulya was born in Mimili. Her mother is Kunmanara (Milatjari) Pumani whose country is Antara, west of Mimili. Ngupulya’s father was Sam Pumani and his country is on the APY Lands, near Watarru. Ngupulya’s grandparents on Milatjari’s side are King Everard (Nyapi) and Mantjangka Everard.
Ngupulya is the eldest of five children. She has three brothers - Ken, Luey and Apada – as well as a sister, Betty Kuntiwa Pumani (also a celebrated painter), who all live in Mimili. Ngupulya has four daughters and a son -Janita, Sandra, Uni, Josina and Bradley (dec.). Ngupulya is married to Shannon Kantji and they have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ....
