Patrick Mung Mung est un artiste senior au sein du Warmun Art Center et un aîné à la communauté de Warmun à l'est du Kimberley.

Sa peinture avec les pigments naturels de la terre, apposés sur toile, constitue un aspect important de sa pratique artistique. Les pierres sont collectées dans les endroits importants du territoire puis broyées pour composer les pigments.

Sa connaissance de son pays, la mémoire de sa famille et de sa culture, comme celle de la terre, sont puissamment convoquées dans son travail.

Comme son défunt père, George Mung Mung, Patrick est un sage et communicateur interculturel important. Son œuvre exprime avec une simplicité brute toute l'intensité du territoire et s'inscrit ainsi en cohérence avec la génération précédente d'artistes de Warmun, comme Rover Thomas et Paddy Jaminji.

Patrick est né à Spring Creek et a travaillé comme éleveur pendant de nombreuses années à la Texas Downs Station et à proximité des stations à l'est du Kimberley.

Il a été le dernier travailleur à quitter Texas Downs quand celui-ci a fermé ses portes dans les années 1970.

En 1991, après la mort de son père, Patrick est allé accompagner la sculpture de son père «Mary of Warmun» à Canberra pour l'exposition «Art aborigène et spiritualité» à la Haute Cour d'Australie.

Cette occasion a marqué le début d'un voyage pour Patrick, qui devait le voir assumer le rôle de son père comme artiste senior, dépositaire du savoir et sa cultured. Patrick Mung Mung a commencé à peindre en 1991 et a joué un rôle déterminant dans la création du centre d'art de Warmun en 1998. Depuis, Patrick a réalisé différentes performances et danses cérémonielles Gurirr Gurirr en Australie, à Paris et au Canada.

with natural earth pigments on canvas is a significant aspect of his art practice. His knowledge of his country and his cultural
memory of family, land and work are powerfully linked in his work.

Like his late father, George Mung Mung, Patrick is a strong crosscultural communicator. Patrick's work is influenced by the previous generation of Warmun artists, which include Rover Thomas and Paddy Jaminji - in its raw directness and composition. Patrick was born at Spring Creek and worked as a stockman for many years on Texas Downs Station and nearby stations in the East Kimberley. He was the last worker to leave Texas Downs when it closed down in the 1970s. In 1991 following his father's death, it fell to Patrick to accompany his father’s carving 'Mary of Warmun' to Canberra for the exhibition 'Aboriginal Art and Spirituality' at the High Court of Australia.

This occasion marked the beginning of a journey for Patrick, which was to see him take on his father’s role of senior artist, law and culture man. Patrick Mung Mung started painting in 1991, and was instrumental in establishing the artist-and-community-owned art centre at Warmun in 1998. Since that time, Patrick has led Gija performances of the Gurirr Gurirr around Australia and in Paris and Canada.
